the house
Edric’s Farmhouse is a beautiful Devon home nestled in a tranquil valley, with easy access to the Jurassic Coast's stunning beaches. It’s set in an acre of private garden and surrounded by farmland - perfect for a luxury family holiday or a special gathering.
The house was built in the early sixteenth century and it’s Grade II listed with a fascinating history. There has been a home on this site since before the time of the Domesday book in 1086. Back then the owner was listed as ‘Edric the Cripple’.
Edric’s Farmhouse has five bedrooms, and can sleep up to 12 people (10 adults plus 2 children under 16). It’s available mid June to mid September. The farmhouse is let as an entire home for sole use of the guests including private garden. There’s private parking for up to 4 cars.
the area
The Jurassic Coast is just 20 minutes away with its many beaches and the magnificent South West Coast path. The farmhouse is in the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding natural Beauty – so you have the best of both worlds - rural tranquility with great walks from the front door as well as access to the coast.
The area has a steadily growing foodie scene. Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall with his River Cottage a couple of miles away was an early pioneer. Many others have followed. We can recommend shops selling the best of local Devon produce for those who want to go out foraging and come back to cook. Plus lots places to eat out – from fine dining to beach shacks.
Or just stay home to sprawl on garden sofas, play badminton, table tennis etc. Have dinner watching the sun sink behind the valley. As well as firepit, trampoline, swing set, tree house, big TV, board games etc.
“A historic, beautifully restored house with wonderful views over the rolling Devon hills … Every space is decorated beautifully … all oak beams, huge open fireplaces, and a beautiful carved Tudor mantel.”
